Traditionelles Ikigai ist ein alltagsnahes Konzept, das tief in der japanischen Kultur verwurzelt ist. Es umfasst die fünf Säulen:

  • Klein anfangen.
  • Loslassen lernen.
  • Harmonie und Nachhaltigkeit leben.
  • Die Freude an kleinen Dingen entdecken.
  • Im Hier und Jetzt sein.

Diese Säulen betonen persönliche Erfüllung und Lebensfreude im Alltag. Es ist kein Konzept, das zwingend mit Arbeit, Beruf oder Erfolg in Verbindung steht.

Die westliche Interpretation des Ikigai ist die populäre Darstellung mit vier sich überschneidenden Kreisen in einem Venn-Diagramm. Diese bringt Ikigai in einen beruflichen Kontext. Sie umfasst:

  • Das, was du liebst.
  • Das, worin du gut bist.
  • Das, wofür du bezahlt werden kannst.
  • Das, was die Welt braucht.

Diese Version hebt die Synergie zwischen

  • Berufung (Schnittmenge aus Das, wofür du bezahlt werden kannst und Das, was die Welt braucht),
  • Leidenschaft (Schnittmenge aus Das, was du liebst und Das, worin du gut bist),

Traditional Ikigai is an everyday concept that is deeply rooted in Japanese culture. It includes the five pillars:

  • Discover the joy in small things.
  • Be in the here and now.

These pillars emphasize personal fulfillment and joy in everyday life. It is not a concept that is necessarily associated with work, career or success.

The western interpretation of Ikigai is the popular representation with four overlapping circles in a Venn diagram. This puts Ikigai in a professional context. It includes:

  • What you love.
  • What you are good at.
  • What you can be paid for.
  • What the world needs.

This version highlights the synergy between

  • calling (the intersection of what you can get paid for and what the world needs),
  • passion (the intersection of what you love and what you are good at),
  • mission (the intersection of what you love and what the world needs) and
  • profession (the intersection of what you are good at and what you can get paid for)

and aims at self-actualization in the context of career and social contribution.
